ACUPUNCTURE & CHINESE MEDICINE
Acupuncture is a two-thousand-year-old individualistic and patient-focused form of medicine involving the insertion of fine, hair-thin sterile, single-use needles into specific points along meridians that transverse the body carrying along Qi (vital energy, similar to what the yogis call Prana, or life force) and blood. If there are imbalances, excesses, or deficiencies in these meridians (or associated organs), symptoms may arise. These imbalances can occur due to internal factors such as emotions and diet. They may also arise due to external factors such as climate, lifestyle, trauma, or STRESS. By treating the underlying, or constitutional cause, symptoms will, over time, resolve.
Supriya provides traditional acupuncture practiced primarily in the Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS) and several Chinese medicinal therapies, successfully treating a variety of ailments, while specializing in digestive issues, chronic pain, mental health, and women’s health.
Through her chosen style of acupuncture, which emphasizes hands-on palpation of the abdomen, hands, and feet, her patients’ bodies guide her treatment, thus allowing Supriya to get to the root cause of imbalances.

Acupuncture is just one of a variety of modalities that are under the umbrella of Chinese Medicine. Through an intake session and thorough hands-on palpation, she works to personalize her care based on each individual’s unique pattern and presentation. In doing so, Supriya will utilize acupuncture as well as gua sha, cupping, moxabustion, and Chinese herbal supplement prescription as needed based on one’s presentation and particular ailment. See descriptions of each treatment modality below to learn more:
Gua Sha: an ancient healing technique utilizing a spoon or similar instrument to rub the surface of the skin and draw toxins or stagnation outward as well as promote a healthy immune system.
Cupping: utilizing either glass or plastic cups, toxins and stagnation from condensed or strained muscle tissue are pulled out and to the surface. Cups can be stationary (glass or plastic) or sliding (glass).
Moxabustion: a gentle aromatic and warming technique to move blocked Qi (energy) in the meridians, expel cold, and increase overall well-being and energy.
Chinese Herbal Medicine: unmodified pill or powder formulas to enhance outcomes in particular cases where daily treatment is necessary.
